📢 The Second Silence: When Institutions Fail, Community Must Not

Please join me on Substack where I am building a community to support one another and discuss the issues that mainstream media—and soon, the courts—may no longer acknowledge.

We will be talking about everything from abuse cases, domestic violence laws, child sexual abuse laws, women’s rights, and LGBTQ+ rights. Because I fear that, as our rights erode, the major U.S. newspapers—owned by billionaires—will follow the courts in looking away.

But this isn’t just about laws and politics—it’s about culture, too. We’ll be examining how these issues show up in films, literature, music, and theater. How storytelling shapes our understanding of justice and complicity. How art can bear witness, resist silence, and remind us of what’s at stake. From the way predators are portrayed (or excused) on screen, to the stories that push back against oppression, to the music and performances that challenge power—culture has always been a battleground. And we are paying attention.

Because if they want to take us back to the old days, we’ll remember what has always been true: stories shape resistance. Art is a tool of survival. And silence, in any form, is never an option.

I have an article coming out in The Guardian soon. But one article is not enough. We must speak up. We must be brave. We must support each other.

If they want to take us back to the old days, then we will return to some old tactics.

We will expose predators. We will isolate misogynists. We will hold homophobes accountable.

This is what is already happening:

🚨 Women are hemorrhaging to death in emergency rooms because doctors are afraid to treat miscarriages.
🚨 Sexual assault victims—including children—are being forced to carry their rapists' babies.
🚨 Title IX protections have been gutted. Legal recourse for victims is disappearing.
🚨 The CDC has erased the Youth Behavioral Survey from its website. We no longer have national data on how children are faring—mentally, physically, emotionally. BTW this dataset was the baseline for any intervention I was implementing to help children. Without this survey we have no national pulse on what's happening to our children and how to help them.

For those who didn’t know: Now you do.

For those who didn’t care: It’s time to care.

What Happens When There’s Nowhere to Report?

What happens when child abuse reporting agencies are defunded into collapse?

When courts refuse to hear cases of sexual violence?

When states decide, one by one, whether rape is even a crime?

When children—already groomed into silence—have no system left to protect them?

When the System Fails, We Turn to Each Other!

If the courts won’t hold predators accountable, communities must.

If institutions crumble, networks of safety must be built.

If the government won’t protect us, we will protect ourselves.
If they try to erase the truth, we will refuse the silence.
